Capacity Modeller from vKernel
vKernel Capacity Modeller.
Free tool from vKernel has been here for some time. Since I did not write about this tool yet, now it’s the occasion. This tool helps to to a scenarios what if… for example I add 3 or 4 more VMs to my ESX host etc…. Whether you only having a small infrastructure.
Capacity Modeller lets you import your existing VMware environment and incorporate accurate specifications of target physical servers from a list of 428 IBM, Dell and HP server models. You can then quickly test and validate hundreds of “what if” VM deployment and resource allocation scenarios.
You can monitor up to 3 ESX/ESXi hosts or only 1 vCenter server with this free edition. Those are the limitations.

To install this tool after downloading from vKernel’s website: VKernel Capacity Modeler
What to do to deploy that?
01. Execute the Exe package and save it to your hard drive.
02. Use VMware converter (free tool) to convert the VM to the Virtual Infrastructure VM format.
03. for your destination type and then input the location and credentials for the VirtualCenter or ESX host.
I used a VMware converter build into the VMware Workstation 7.1.1 to do the job.

The configuration is straightforward. You must enter an IP adress for the Virtual machine, or you can use DHCP. And also to setup your timezone. The setup then configures the VM.
You’ll find a text file when you unzip the package. All the necessary instructions are there..
The access to the VM is via a web browser…
the default username/passwords are: vkernel/vkernel
