P2V from Vizioncore – vConverter 4
Some great features with this new version of VConverter 4. It’s not only a migration tool for all your physical servers, but with this new version you can also use this tool for continuous P2V migration. What is it? By using new incremental replication technology. This allows physical servers to be continuously protected. Only changes to the source data are replicated to the target virtual machine in order to minimize network traffic and allow for more regular replication cycles.
That’s something very usefull and I was thinking about since a long time. I was actually trying to do the same think with VMware converter but as you know, the process of converting a physical machine is quite long. In the company where I work we have one ESX Server and we use it mostly for testing before we actually make changes definitive in our real infrastructure. With this feature we might be able to change our Disaster Recovery plan and benefit the almost continuous protection.
So the key features of VConvertor 4 are:
- Continuous P2V migration with Incremental image replication – ( great for Disaster Recovery !!!)
- User profiles library (for reusing the same credentials over time)
- Raw Device Mapping (Provides virtual machine with the direct access to a LUN on the physical storage subsystem)
- Availability as virtual appliance (for P2V/V2V migration in COS-less platforms
- Multi platform – VMware, Microsoft, XenServer or Virtual Iron
- Remote Cold Cloning – for Databases and e-mail servers
