VMware changed names for their product line

VMware has changed the names of their products. So there is no more Virtual Center but VMware vCenter Server for example… Quite (deroutante….f r…) new aproach. I’ve read this information on a blog of Jason Boche and then I said to myself that I might have look a bit closer to see what’s behind this. At the same time I’ll learn something, I’m sure. As you might already found out through my posts, I am not an expert of VMware or Microsoft. I’m just an average admin who want to learn more every day. I find doing this easier- through blogging… -:)

Basicaly there is 2 families of products at VMware. A Desktop Virtualization product family and Datacenter Virtualization products.

Datacenter products :

Destktop products:

  • VMware View (formerly VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)
  • VMware ThinApp
  • VMware ACE
  • VMware Workstation
  • VMware Fusion
  • VMware Player (free product)

You can find the mapping from old product names to new product names here.
