USB not used in ESX. Why not?
Since I was using VMware I was wondering why there was less features in the entreprise platform. For example USB is not supported in ESX. It’s been many times the users requested it. But the major trouble with USB is that it’s not possible to use it when you vMotion your Virtual Machine. The same counts for CD/DVD ROM. If you want to be free to move your VM’s arround with vMotion, you can’t use USB. This just won’t work…….
It could be an option, at least. One could have a choice. Instead you have to do ways differently when you work with a VM inside of ESX Server or if you work with a VM running inside VMware Workstation, which has many features the VM’s running in ESX does not have…
In Workstation just
simply give focus to your VM (click inside its window) and then plug in a USB device. That’s it. The device will be recognized by the VM.
