VESI and PowerGUI going to merge

Vesi and PowerGUI will become one tool. In fact the efforts are made to maintain unique platform only and merge those 2 projects.

What now? Many vSphere administrators now still have the possibility to use PowerGUI which is another graphical user interface which can be used to run, create and test new scripts. Very popular VMware Power Pack can be used with PowerGUI. Dimitry Sotnikov who is the person in charge of PowerGui, and I already reported about this tool here and here, has informed about why the process of merging those 2 projects.

It’s an unique free tool which is helpful not only for vSphere environments, but there are also PowerPacks for Hyper-V, Active Directory, Exchange Server and others…. See how the PowerGUI can help you with daily tasks of maintenance, reporting etc….

Dmitry Sotnikov:

We are not discontinuing the projects – we are merging them. So instead of 2 PowerShell tools to maintain we will be maintaining one – PowerGUI. We have already ported all VESI functionality in there so it is now a superset of VESI and PowerGUI and with the resources we have freed up with the merger are actively working on the next version. PowerGUI will now be able to advance faster and be even more useful for VMware administration. The only thing which you are loosing is the VESI branding. From functionality perspective you are now getting more – not less.

VMware Power Pack is part of PowerGUI 2.3 and the latest build can be downloaded from the PowerGUI website here. If you’re new to PowerGUI you can find a lot of tutorials in a subsection of the PowerGUI website here.

There are some cool wallpapers there at PowerGui website and as I live on the southern hemisphere, I just took one of the summer wallpapers …- :)

Thanks for writing the post and covering the story – this helps avoid the confusion.

Just a slight correction though: PowerGUI’s handle on Twitter is @PowerGUIorg – http://twitter.com/powerguiorg (unfortunately PowerGUI has already been taken.)
