VMware Workstation is one of my tools I use every day. I’ve done recently a migration from NT4 domain and I used the VMware Workstation as a platform of transition.
First I installed a NT4 inside of VMware workstation as a BDC. Joined to the NT4 domain, promote to PDC and update to Windows 2000 server witth Active Directory. I even had to use one of great functionality – snapshots, to get myself back a bit when I received an error during the migration process.
Like this I could transfer an Active directory from the 2000 server VM to my new physical server… installed at client site. Awesome !!
