How-to Copy Paste Repetitive Graphics or Text With ClipX – Free Clipboard Manager

By Vladan SEGET | Last Updated: March 17, 2015

So many times I've been looking into a some kind of clipboard manager which would remember what you have copied into the clipboard earlier. Some kind of clipboard with history. The tool I found can Copy Paste Repetitive Graphics or Text. I found it!

This tool is for anyone when working with portions of text or graphics and there is a need to copy something that has been already copied to the clipboard previously. I believe that anyone was already in this situation. This tool is very very useful. In addition it's free.

Which tool? I'm talking about ClipX by Francis Gastellu.  It is a tiny utility allowing to remember text and images you have copied previously to the clipboard. As simple as that.

How-to Copy Paste Repetitive Graphics or Text with ClipX

After installing the program, it sits in the taskbar clipX where with right click > configure you can setup different hotkeys than the default ones (for me I just left the default). In fact the predefined hotkeys just make enough sense to me (CTRL + SHIFT + INS for primary paste operation or CTRL + SHIFT + V for secondary. But if the hotkeys do conflict with already predefined keys you're using for something else than you certainly will want to change the defaults.

When hitting any of those keys while being editing a document, the tool brings up a small window where you can choose what you want to paste, with your mouse (or arrow keys of your keyboard). You see the history represented by the numbers on the right hand side.

You can choose what to paste. Simple and efficient.

By right clicking the toolbar icon (btw. the icon is personalizable too) you get the menu which looks like this. Can see the history – see which is the latest item in the clipboard (1) and then the second last (2) etc….

The manage menu brings a small window which allows you to Edit or delete individual items in the clipboard.

The window looks like this. Again, very simple with no surprises there.

Other Options

  • You can define how many items to keep (default is 25)
  • There are some free plugins which can be downloaded from the author's website too. I just picked the first one called Stickies, which can keep certain items. Those items will stay in the clipboard – at the bottom.
  • Run on Startup

What else to say?

The program is free. It's not new as I can see (created in 2005). But it brings a real value and for people who manages text and graphics quite often the tool is perfect. Please consider donating few $ to the creator… -:)
