VCP6-DCV or VCP6-DCV Delta? What’s Your Way?

By Vladan SEGET | Last Updated: November 9, 2022

Since I have started to work on my VCP6-DCV Page, which shall helps out with studying for VCP6-DCV exam, I had few questions from my readers on which exam to take. VMware has two options to pass VCP6-DCV exam, but depending if you're current VCP or now you can schedule only a “delta” exam which has less questions and few chapters less to study. We'll see that in the post.

1. VCP6-DCV Delta exam (Exam Number: 2V0-621D) which you can currently schedule for first Available Appointment: August 30, 2015. The delta exam can be taken by current VCP's. Usually like half of the questions will be generic VMware questions which you use to know for previous VCP exams with certainly more new material concerning vSphere 6 and products in the vSphere suite (VR, VDP etc…). The delta exam is limited in time and won't be on the schedule forever but it's limited in time as the current VCP's 5 (or 5.5) will expire one day.

Recommended training – vSphere: What's New [V5.5 to V6]

2. VCP6-DCV Exam (Exam Number: 2V0-621) which you can also currently schedule for the first appointment on 30 August 2015, but the number of questions isn't still available. The 75 min exam limit is. If you look at the exam blueprint and you compare with the delta, you can see that only very few chapters are missing in the delta compared to the full VCP6-DCV exam.

Recommended training – vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V6]

VCP6-DCVWhich chapter is in the delta exam and is not in the Full exam?

  • Setup and Configure AppHA

Which chapters are NOT in the delta exam?

  • Troubleshoot and Monitor vSphere Performance
  • Troubleshoot HA and DRS Configurations and Fault Tolerance
  • Consolidate Physical Workloads using VMware Converter
  • Configure and Maintain a vCloud Air Connection

If you're studying to become VCP6-DCV certified professional, I highly recommend checking out my VCP6-DCV study guide which is  work-in-progress (currently about 70% done) project

now finished. Additionally, you can download it as a Free PDF thanks to Simplivity.

Thanks. Any word on how long the Delta exam will be available? I’m not planning on taking it until next Summer when my cert gets ready to expire.

    Hi,
At this time I’m not a VCP, what certification exam do you recommend for first time take VCP6-DCV Delta or VCP6-DCV?

    Regards,

If you’re not VCP, then you don’t really have a choice – It’s VMwrare Class + VCP exam. Best luck.

    HI,

Delta exam could be done at home? or have to be done in a examinator center?

    Thanks

In the U.S., VMware exams are done in an examination center. I don’t know if it’s different elsewhere.

I’m scheduled to take the delta exam on 5/20. VMware website lists topics covered on delta and standard exams. The lists now don’t show any difference in topics covered; however, the delta is 65 questions while the standard is 85 questions.

Thank you Vladan for maintaining this site!

    Hi Vladan 🙂

First of all, thanks and congratulations for this great blog post comparing the VCP6-DCV “Full” Exam (2V0-621) and the VCP6-DCV “Delta” Exam (2V0-621D)

I realize that you posted this about 4 months ago (on April 28, 2016 and I’m writing this comment on September 2, 2016). I’m now reading (once more) the VMware Blueprint for the Delta Exam – located at https://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=64181&ui=www_cert – and the 4 topics that you mentioned that are on the “Full” Exam but NOT on the Delta Exam, are now also on the Delta Exam, namely the following ones:

+ Objective 7.4: Troubleshoot and Monitor vSphere Performance

+ Objective 7.5: Troubleshoot HA and DRS Configurations and Fault Tolerance

+ Objective 8.3: Consolidate physical workloads using vCenter Converter

+ Objective 10.3: Configure and maintain a vCloud Air connection

You may want to update your blog post with this information 🙂

        Just need one clarification

I going to appear for VCP-DCV Exam, Just want to check if the VCP-DCV (Delta) Exam Dumps can be applied or not

I’m not going to comment this. VMware exams are not about dumps, but about the admin’s knowledge for the exam. There is enough material on my website and else where for you to learn towards the exam… no? -:)
