Operations Manager 3.0 from VMTurbo has been released

VMturbo has released Operations Manager 3.0

New major upgrade to VMturbo’s flagship product has just been released with XenServer and vCloud Director support. In previous release of VMturbo’s product the VMware vSphere and Hyper-V has been supported already. The product licensing suite stays as before – per physical CPU socket, with Free Community edition, which is Full Product with not all the features activated, but it uses the main product’s engine as a base.  The Free Community edition can be easily upgraded to Entreprise or Cloud Editions depending on the client’s needs.

What are the new features present in this release? There is quite a few of them:

- VMware vCloud Director Integration - A vCD integration is able to consolidate, rightsize and optimize ressources spanned through several datacenters and tenants.

-  XenServer support Added – Managing with single dashboard.  Now VMware vSphere, Hyper-V,  XenServer and VMware vCloud Director can be connected to single dashboard. The login screen shows you that the product will request the authentication for vCenter, XenServer, vCloud Director and Hyper-V. Once done, single management console will be used for daily tasks.

-  Application awareness – Windows applications are automatically discovered (new one can be added by user, depending which services he wants to monitor) and monitored for performance. Out of the box the SQL, IIS, AD, and others are added automatically, so monitoring of those applications starts the moment when you install it. MS Exchange can be added as a group of Exchange services, since number of servers and services are depending on Exchange Architecture, Version, etc… Any other application can be added by the operator or IT admin. The interface is flexible enough.

-  Enhanced, Intelligent Capacity Planning-  The performance-based capacity analysis can be run and it’s based on workload performance characteristics and the physical environment. Detailed performance planning scenarios are configurable by future requirements and new hardware upgrades. New in this release – The product validates that for example workload placement policies won’t prevent the added load being incorporated in the environment or perhaps that a specific added load (VM) will need access to resources not available in the environment.

The deployment is a snap with a transportable, pre-configured  OVF package which retains all the settings and which makes the deployment very easy… It’s a single virtual appliance. You can start optimizing and automating your infrastructure within minutes.

The product is nicely finished and the possibilities are quite enormous on what’s possible. The out of the box configuration brings already the optimization that are necessary for your virtual environment.

The Operations Manager  3.0 Suite as I said in the beginning of the article, starts with the Free Community Edition, then there is the Entreprise and Cloud editions. The Enterprise sells for $399 and Cloud edition sells for $799.

In fact, by downloading the Free Community Edition you automatically activate the 30 days trial of the Cloud edition…. -:). Nice.

As for now I haven’t played by myself with the new release, but this article will get updated with my feelings about this product.

There are other enhancements in the new release as well, like for example in this screenshot.

Also, every Chart, Graph, Time Line or Log with this symbol can be exported as XML.

Also, there is another feature which enables you to export directly MS Excell files. Any standard report may now be generated in Excel format. This greatly increases the value of certain reports such as the ‘Storage Wasted’ report. With Excel format export, it is now much easier to manage the archival or deletion of these files.

“IT managers need a new approach to ensuring application performance and maximizing resource efficiency across their virtualized environments,” said Shmuel Kliger, CTO and founder at VMTurbo. “Too many cycles are spent finding and trying to fix discrete performance issues, instead of preventing them in the first place. Our platform places control back into the hands of IT operators by intelligently tuning the configuration of the virtual environment to provide application assurance and avoid resource contention. This release extends our support and will enable organizations to have more flexibility when choosing solutions for their virtual and cloud infrastructures. It is another step in our journey to a closed-loop control plane for virtualized environments that enables transparent mobility of workloads across heterogeneous, hybrid clouds.”

The Product has 30 days trial available, follow this link. After the trial expired, the product runs as a Community Edition.
