Happy New Year 2014

New Year's Eve means fun. I stumbled through this ASCII art pic, so hey, why not to post it for fun….. -:) The past year has brought many new experiences to me. I tried to post tutorials, news and videos to help out new folks starting in virtualization and also for my own bookmarking needs.

I also shared my experience from an advanced VMware certification exams – VCAP exams. Those exams are difficult, but not impossible to pass! I hope that you (my readers) find those posts useful and informative.

My blogging adventure continues as well as my learning and certifications. That's an IT life, you can never stop learning. You can't take your knowledge for granted. You have to move forward again and again. If you stop learning you're ….

Happy New Year 2014With that said, I found that many new virtualization blogs were created, and many of them died dry…. Blogging is fun, but when done right, it's a daily job!

Many readers are asking questions through e-mail, comments or Twitter. With the new upcoming Year 2014 coming, I'd like to give some advices to new bloggers which might start blogging next year.

  • Why blog? – Never start a blog if you think that you can became famous or you can become rich. When I first started this blog it was to allows me to bookmark stuff. I wanted (and still want) to have my own space on the Internet where I can quickly find my stuff. Now, few years later I'm still amazed to find my own post when seeking for a solution or guide…-:). So the main reason was just that.
  • Consistency and frequency – posting frequently is good, but if you don't feel like that you can post daily, choose weekly frequency. And stick with it. Your readers takes habit to get new post on regular basis.
  • Get your own domain name – you want to use a domain like mycompany.com/blog or mycompanyblog.com instead of mycompany.blogger.com or mycompany.wordpress.com. This way you’re building up trust for your domain, not your hosting company’s or Google's.
  • Be prepared to invest – Yes, starting a blog is an investment not only from time perspective, but it also costs some money.  I've started with shared hosting, then went to VPS but ended up on dedicated server. Also, when choosing WordPress theme, sure, you'll start with a free theme. But the free themes aren't so good as professional (paid) themes. Not so secure as well. I've ended with using Genesis Framework which code is more secure and more clean. In addition there is a child theme Dynamik for Genesis, which allows me to chose and build a layout I want.
  • Learn from other's mistakes and experiences – Check out my WordPress Tips page. I'm sharing tips for bloggers wanting to start a blog.  This blog is mean to be here to help me, but also others, so if you find the tips or posts usefull – JUST SHARE through your favorite social media networks !!!

With that said, Happy New Year 2014
