Veeam Backup 3.0 supports ESXi without VCB
Veeam backup 3.0 is available. With this new version is now possible to backup/restore ESXi server with the VMs without the use of VCB (VMware Consolidated Backup). VCB is standard component of ESX Server license, but for the free version of ESXi, it is not included. The ESXi backup through VCB was introduced with version 2.0 of the software. So now it is possible not to use VCB and still have fast and reliable backup/restore solution.
So when someone wants to have backup/restore solution, why not to use Veeam Backup for all your ESX, ESXi Servers?

The Features:
- allows you to restore individual files from your image-level backups and replicas in seconds, without having to extract the full VM image to your local drive.
- Complete implementation of VSS support (Volume Shadow Copy Service – Microsoft’s technology ), VSS-aware applications (for example. Active Directory, Exchange), Including Windows 2008.
- De-duplication – it provides great results when you want to back up multiple virtual machines created from a single template, or VMs with gigabytes of free space on their pre-allocated logical drives.
- Synthetic backup technique – you have the possibility to do a full backup only once, and then incrementally back up only the changes in all subsequent runs. After, each incremental backup the program rebuilds and reconstruct the last full image to the most recent state, and re-calculates the data which are different since the last backup.
- Backups and replicas of Veeam Backup can be easily restored to a particular point in time. In case you are victim of virus or malware, you can easily produce a roll-back.
- VCB on-the-fly – Veeam Backup does not require storing VM images on the VCB proxy during backup. You can do a faster backup directly to the target without the need for VCB proxy disk space.

Veeam Backup fully uses of VSS ( Volume Shadow Copy Service).
