As VMware usually does, it is not different this year. If you're planning to pass your certs and you plan to attend VMworld, it may be a good idea to do both. VMware offers up to 50% discounts for exams passed during VMworld. I've taken the advantage of passing one of my exams too in the past, but luckily I planned on doing it the first day so after the exam is done, no more stress. I don't think that I have to speak about the importance of having a VMware VCP/VCAP VMware certification. It is an industry standard for every datacenter IT guy. In order to pretend for a job on this position, without any VMware exams, it might be difficult, see impossible.
