Two New VMware Certified Professional Certifications for VMware administrators: VCP-VVF and VCP-VCF

By Vladan SEGET | Last Updated: October 3, 2024

Admins willing to get certified with VMware now has a new options to do so. There are two new certifications, that has been added to the VMware certification portal. VCP-VVF and VCP-VCF. You already imagine what those shortcuts are: VCP-VVF (VMware Certified Professional – vSphere Foundation Administrator) and the VCP-VCF (VMware Certified Professional –  VMware Cloud Foundation – Administrator).

Again, those certification work the same way as previous certification (concerning the Year they were taken), and there is no mandatory training necessary to pass the tests. The fee is now standardized for all exams ($250), including VCAP exams.

The VCP-VVF (vSphere foundation) cert is similar to VCP-DCV while the VCP-VCF (cloud foundation) has more of the CF parts (architecture VCF, deployment VCF, CF domains, NSX, Stretched clusters…). The VCP-VVF is a bit shorter (55 items) compared to VCF-VCF (70 item exam).

Both exams are delivered through Pearson VUE. It seems like those two exams will be covering most of the VMware products at the Administrator's level. Changes to VCAP's will come after, I guess.

1. (VCP-VVF Admin) 2024

The VMware Certified Professional – VMware vSphere Foundation Administrator

55-item exam with a passing score of 300 using a scaled method. Candidates are given an appointment time of 115 minutes, which includes adequate time to complete the exam for non- native English speakers.

This certification validates the skills required to deploy, manage, and support private cloud environments built on VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF). This certification is designed for IT professionals expanding from traditional infrastructure roles to cloud administration. Candidates for this certification includes professionals responsible for implementing and maintaining VVF infrastructure, ensuring it meets organizational service level objectives for availability, performance, and security. By achieving this certification, professionals demonstrate their ability to effectively operate VVF environments.

2. (VCP-VCF Admin) 2024

The VMware Certified Professional –  VMware Cloud Foundation – Administrator

70-item exam with a passing score of 300 using a scaled method. Candidates are given an appointment time of 135 minutes, which includes adequate time to complete the exam for non- native English speakers.

Note: The exam is based on VCF 5.2

You'll need to pass the VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2 Administrator (2V0-11.24)

Exam Guide (PDF) here.

The candidate is knowledgeable of the features, functions, and architectures of all VCF components, which include the following: VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus (which includes vCenter Standard, ESXi, vSphere with Tanzu), vSAN, NSX Networking, Aria Automation, Aria Operations, Aria Operations for Logs, Aria Suite Lifecycle. Aria Operations for Network, HCX, and DSM.

Note: I think that you already know because I blogged about those changes here… VMware Certification Changes – no more mandatory training pre-requisites

Quote:

Beginning May 6, 2024, completing a training course or other prerequisite certification will no longer be a prerequisite for students seeking certification. This allows you greater flexibility to demonstrate your skills and knowledge on your own terms. It is important to note that certification upgrades will continue to be offered through official courses.

All VCTA, VCP, and VCAP exams will now be charged a flat fee of USD $250.00. The new fee structure will take effect on May 6, 2024, and will apply to all new registrations, renewals, and retakes

However, attending the Non mandatory courses from VMware is highly recommended.

Those courses are:

VMware Cloud Foundation: Deploy, Configure, Manage – This five-day course, created for system architects and administrators, includes instruction on the capabilities of VMware Cloud Foundation™ and how to successfully plan, deploy, manage, and operate hybrid and cloud infrastructures, including customization. The course explains the architecture of VMware Cloud Foundation and explains licensing, certificates, and storage and network management. The course also covers workload domains, availability, life cycle management, and troubleshooting.

Duration: 40 hours

Perquisites or equivalent knowledge in:

VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage
VMware NSX: Install, Configure, Manage
VMware vSAN: Install, Configure, Manage

VMware Cloud Foundation: Troubleshooting – After completing the VMware Cloud Foundation: Deploy, Configure and Manage course, this three-day training course provides the advanced knowledge, skills, and tools to achieve competency in troubleshooting problems in VMware Cloud Foundation™ infrastructure. In this course you are exposed to tools and methodologies that help you support and troubleshoot your VMware Cloud Foundation environment. In addition, various scenarios are presented to you in hands-on student labs and simulations where you will learn to identify, analyze, and solve problems systematically in VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure.

Duration: 24 hours

Prerequisite: VMware Cloud Foundation: Deploy, Configure and Manage course

    Hello,
I have seen the 2v0-11.25 and the 2v0-11.24. What is the difference?
I am looking to take one as I am a VMUG advantage member.

The “24” is the one for 2024. Same exams, just a year difference.
