We're at the end of 2025, almost. I'd like to recap what I wrote and which were the posts that got the most “success” during 2025. Which posts got the most views? As you might know, this blog runs since 2008.
I was originally born in Czech Republic (ancient Czechoslovakia), but I live now in France (continental) before living 17 years at Reunion Island (French Overseas Territory close to Mauritius, part of Europe).
Many of my collegues from the IT in Czech Republic during the Veeam 100 Summit in Prague 2025 were quite suprised that I'm from Czech Republic actually -:). Hey, no wonder, the blog's language is English so even my french IT collegues might be suprised that I'm french.
The blog I run it as a passion. Over the years, there were many partners/sponsors who came and left. It's eternal circle. So I also do write for external publications when the time permits. That was the case, back in a day, I wrote for TechTarget.com or 4sysops.com during several years, but also for other IT resources.
For those interested more, I found some old interviews: ( VMware Blog, and Runecast Blog ).
Anyway, the blog has started in 2008 and the main reason was for to keep track of configurations, installations, step-by-steps, remembering checkboxes and configs, and that's why there is still a lot of screenshots on my blog posts (no, AI answers cannot do that yet). My readers like to see screenshots of what they needs to configure, what they need to solve as a problem. So having many screenshots in my blog posts and reviews is essential part of my work.

Painful 2024 and beginning 2025
But let me go back to the beginning of 2025 (with end of 2024 where my blogging was quite impacted and I think I haven't told you about it yet). The start of the 2025 has been with a slow pace because I was recovering from my construction work. Why I was doing construction work? Well, because one construction company failed to do it! Bankrupcy and done.
Then was the after-covid price of material and work increase of 40-50% within the construction sector and that was way above we could finance for our project. The decission was made – I'll do it instead!!!
So I did it.
You might ask, how could you do that? Well, this is not my first house construction as we do have a family house in Czech Republic which was mostly done as auto-construction project as well (I was 14-15 yo). Then also, I built another house as auto-constructor, close to Bassin d'Arcachon, in south west of France. And most importantly, I have a French diploma in Electric so I'm able to cable houses/appartments by respecting the NFC 15-100
NF C 15-100 (often written as NFC 15-100 or simply C 15-100) is the French national standard that governs the rules for the design, installation, verification, and maintenance of low-voltage electrical installations in France.
Yes, hectic 5 month of work where the start was with “empty” house block with windows placed (that's where the constructio firm ended), but everything else needed to be done! ( Thermal insulation, Electricity, plumbing, air-ventilation, floor tiles, paintings, kitchen (Kit from Ikea), plus all the exterior fences and gates…
Then the final certification which is needed for all new houses! Yes, you need a certificate from independent company (Consuel) that your electrical installation is conform with normes in France (NFC-15100) and also you have to get certified to obtain Diagnostic de Performance Énergétique (DPE), which evaluates a property’s energy consumption and environmental impact. With all this done, a house close to Ales, France was born.
Before
Alès is approximately 70 to 80 kilometers (about 45 to 50 miles) from the Mediterranean Sea, depending on the specific coastal point. The nearest major seaside destinations are cities like Montpellier or the beaches near Béziers, both accessible by car or train in around 1 to 1.5 hours.
So the amount of manual work I've done during 5-7 months of 2024 was considerable and obviously impacted my blogging. But hey, it was for me, for us, and it was done to escape a loan prison. I've done everything, except the coating, and the trenches for used water etc….
And after… The whole project looks like this from the drone perspective. The house is not very big, only about 80 m2 place….
First time done my rounded fences lol….
What's next Vladan?
I guess, if someone asks me, will you be doing more of the construction work or not? Well, I say – never say never! When you see the incompetency, the failures, the despere situation that people are in after bancrupcies of construction firms, you better do it by yourself! Auto-construction is the way to do it.

Yes, so finally if you made it down here, it means that you follow me and you're interested what I do. Those posts were most popular in 2025 and I think that it reflect the overall shift from VMware to alternate hypervisors. Yes, this topic is hot and will be, over the next couple of years. But not only. Other IT topics are my interest.

Final Words
There is many threads on Reddit about VMware licensing costs, migrations to elsewhere, and alternate hypervisors. But I think that while back in a day we all have moved and choosed VMware because it was the most robust and still accessible virtualization solution. However now it is not the most accessible (it has become inaccessible, actually, from the financial standpoint). Also due to the packaging. And then you have all those other, open-source, supported alternative solutions, that becomes better and better every year.
If you want to escape the VMware licensing hell, you have plenty of options. Those alternative hypervisor technologies are now supported 24/7 for production environments, and now, even the most popular backup vendors are supporting them! Backups are crucial and so if your backup vendor supports the solution you want to adopt, bingo!
Veeam Data Platform v13 has expanded its hypervisor support, with immediate availability for Scale Computing HyperCore and upcoming support for several other platforms, including HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, Citrix XenServer, and XCP-ng. As of December 18, 2025, support for Proxmox VE is listed as available on Veeam’s official blog.
The future will tell.
I with you all Happy X-mass and peaceful New Year time.
